Accessibility Statement

The Upper Etowah River Alliance (UERA) wants everyone to be able to learn about and help protect the Upper Etowah River — including people who use assistive technology. We are committed to making etowahriver.org accessible and easy to use for all visitors.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including people who are blind or have low vision, are deaf or hard of hearing, or have mobility, cognitive, or learning disabilities.

What we’ve done

Our website was built with accessibility in mind. It includes:

  • Readable text and colors. Text and buttons are tested to meet WCAG color-contrast requirements, and the site works when you zoom in up to 200%.
  • Keyboard navigation. You can use the menu, forms, and other controls with a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a “Skip to main content” link at the top of every page.
  • Screen reader support. Pages use clear headings and landmarks, images have text descriptions, icons that are only decorative are hidden from screen readers, and buttons and links have meaningful labels.
  • Accessible forms. Every form field has a label, and required fields and errors are clearly identified.
  • Mobile-friendly design. The site adjusts to phones and tablets without sideways scrolling.

Known limitations

We’re still working to improve. Some areas may not yet be fully accessible:

  • Content from other services. Our donation form (Givebutter), maps (Google Maps), and embedded videos (YouTube) come from other companies, and their accessibility is outside our control.
  • Older documents. Some older newsletters, reports, and other PDFs were created before this website and may not work well with screen readers. We’re happy to provide them in another format.
  • Videos. Some videos may not yet have captions or transcripts.

If something on our website doesn’t work for you, please let us know, and we’ll provide the information another way.

Accessibility at our programs and events

We want our cleanups, education programs, and events to be welcoming to everyone. Outdoor sites along rivers and streams can involve uneven ground, slopes, and water, and accessibility varies by location. If you need an accommodation, or want to know what to expect at a particular site, please contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to help. See our Non-Discrimination Statement for more.

Feedback

We welcome your feedback. If you run into a barrier on our website, need information in a different format, or have a suggestion, please contact us. Let us know the page and what you were trying to do, and we’ll respond within [5 business days].
